IGBA2023 MEET THE JUDGES

Apologies go to Paul Burnett for his profile in the yearbook not being published in full.

Judges Engaged: P Tellaroli (Italy) P Burnett (Portsmouth) G Thompson (Southsea) G Beech (Shrewsbury) P Brown (Oswestry)

PIETRO TELLAROLI – ITALY

My name is Pietro Tellaroli and I am from Bologna, Italy, where I was born 63 years ago. I began raising Glosters  in 1982 and since then I have been a member of the A.B.C. (Associazione Bolognese Canaricoltori). The Canaryculturalist  Association of Bologna were the first to introduce the comparison system of judging in Italy. My best friend and partner in the hobby is Maurizio Roncarati who is also from Bologna  and I owe him so much in all these years spent together.

Our main objectives when breeding Glosters are balanced birds with the roundness of the body, the brightness of the feathers together with the control of the size. It is always a pleasure to meet with colleagues and exchange a few words after a judging assignment. My partner and I have shown our Glosters only at Gloster Specialist Shows because we believe that the best birds are at shows that are dedicated just to the Gloster.

I have previously judged Glosters in Portugal, Italy of course, Malta, Belgium, Greece and America. I am really proud to have been nominated to judge this IGBA show where I am sure I will see high quality birds and meet top breeders and good friends.

Thank you for this opportunity. Pietro

PAUL BURNETT – PORTSMOUTH

Having had my very first bird at six years of age and being 64 years old this year, judging the IGBA club show is the icing on the cake for my time with birds.

The IGBA show is a very special event to myself and my partner George, it remains “THE” event to win. Over my 24 years with Glosters I have seen so many top birds at this event, many still etched in my mind. I am humbled to officiate at an event where many of my own birdkeeping “heroes” will be in attendance. Hopefully, I will be part of a judging team that selects a winner that adequately defines the qualities required in a top modern Gloster”

GEORGE THOMPSON – SOUTHSEA

“Having kept Glosters for nearly forty years, I consider it a huge compliment to be asked to judge the IGBA club show.

As a past winner it is a show very close to me and my partners hearts. I am delighted to see the Association go from strength to strength over the last few years and look forward to meeting the many friends I have made on the day”

GRAHAM BEECH – SHREWSBURY

Many thanks to the members of the IGBA for inviting me to be one of the judges for the club show in 2023. This will be the third time that I have judged at this prestigious event, and look forward to meeting with everyone over the show weekend. I have been married to my wife Joan, for 44 years, and have throughout my life kept various types of birds, Glosters being a part of our lives for approximately 40 of those years. We have a son and two grandchildren, who stand in to look after the birds whilst we’re away.

I show my birds in partnership with Paul Brown, which we have done for many years. I have been fortunate to have been invited to judge many shows alongside Paul in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Holland and Malta. Finally, I would like to wish everyone a successful breeding season and look forward to seeing friends, old and new, at the show. Kind regards Graham Beech

PAUL BROWN – OSWESTRY

A little bit about me, first off I would like to thank all members that voted for me to judge this year’s members show. I’m married to Lesley and have two daughters, we live in Oswestry, Shropshire. I started keeping birds in the 70’s, racing pigeons which I had from a neighbour of my grandparents, my Dad still race’s them now and is quite successful. Soon my head was turned to British and foreign finches, I kept these until leaving school. After a small break, I started with Gloster canaries which I’ve kept for nearly 40 years.

I’ve been in a partnership with Graham Beech for a number of years now, which I’ve had so many enjoyable times with him and his wife Joan. The hobby has made me some lovely friends over the years in the country and abroad. My other interests are boxing (only watching these days though) and keeping fit, though my body tries to tell me otherwise. Hopefully you all have a brilliant breeding season and I look forward to meeting most of you later in the year. Regards Paul Brown
