2025 South African National Cage Bird Association annual show – Glosters

The National winner Mr Rassie Erasmus started breeding Glosters in 1997 in Pretoria, he’s currently on pension. In 2004 together with Mr Sias Spangenberg, they imported Glosters form the UK from Mr Nick Barrett. This is to date still his main blood line and with great success breeding top quality Glosters. Mr Rassie Erasmus also breeds Norwich canaries. He won the National championship 7 times with line breeding this blood line.
Mr Erasmus also took 2nd place as well as best LV Corona at the show.

 

 

Mr Nico van Niekerk started breeding Glosters in 2004 in Pretoria and is a Financial Broker. Same as Mr Erasmus, his main blood line originates form Mr Nick Barrett’s blood line. Mr van Niekerk won the National championship 3 times and only breeds Gloster canaries. Mr van Niekerk took 3rd, 4th and 6th places, as well as colour awards for best Blue/White on show.

 

 

Mr Jacques Smit started breeding Gloster canaries in 2009 in Cape Town and is a business owner. His main blood line originates form Glosters bought form Mr Erasmus and Mr van Niekerk. Mr Smit also breeds Norwich canaries, Yorkshire canaries, Border canaries, and Fife fancy canaries. Mr Smit took 5th place on the show.

Mr Frank van Heerden started breeding Gloster canaries 42 years ago in Vanderbijlpark, he is on pension and dedicate his time to his canaries. He also breeds Fife fancy canaries and Dutch Frill canaries, and he won the National championship once in 2025. Mr van Heerden wone 7th place as well as best Grizzle cap, best cinnamon, and LV Consort on show.
