2025 North of England Combined Cage Bird Exhibition
The North of England Combined Cage Bird Exhibition (NECCBE) which incorporated Morpeth & D CBS (MDCBS), North of England Gloster Club (NEGC), and the Northern Area Show of the Old Varieties Canary Association (OVCA)  was held in Bomarsund Sports and Social Welfare Centre on November 9th 2025.
A total entry 591 grace the benches of which 218 were Glosters, and 116 OVC, Lizard & rare, and a 257 mixed Morpeth entry. Refreshments were available for exhibitors and visitors throughout the duration of the show.
The judges were;
Sam Guy – Gloster Canaries;
Andy Early – OVCs, Rare, Lizards & AOV.
George Eltringham – Borders & Norwich.
Tony Abbott – Fife.
Ray Sanderson – British, Mule & Hybrid.
Patronages.
Patronage was received from the National Council for Aviculture, International Ornithological Association, International Gloster Breeders Association, Old Varieties Canary Association, and the Scots Fancy Specialist Club.
Three special Presidents Award (PA) rosettes were up for competition:
The John Scott PA– Best OVC/Lizard was awarded to Steve Mann – non-cap silver hen.
The George Storey PA – Best Champion Gloster was award to Dave Hobart – U/F  buff  corona hen.
The John Martin PA – Best Novice Gloster was awarded to Andrew Armitage – U/F AOC consort hen.
Morpeth Presidents Rosettes were also awarded to Paul Heathcote’s Border Fancy and Kevin Volpe’s pied common redpoll.
In the Morpeth & D CBS sections 257 exhibits graced the benches and the leading exhibitors were.
Ray Thurlow – best Norwich out of 25 was Ray’s FLTD buff cock, and best Red or new colour in a section of 20 was his clear non-intensive red cock.
Alan Jones led the way in the largest section of 90 – taking best British and best mule or hybrid with a Greenfinch and a Greenfinch mule respectively. The leading novice British was K. Volpe, and K.Dodds took novice mule or hybrid award.
In the Fife section of 50 exhibits Margaret Lane took the leading Fife with a cinnamon yellow cock, and Paul Hutchinson took the novice award with a variegated yellow hen.
Paul Heathcote took the best Border in a section of 42.
Barney Owston led the way in the Irish section with Lauren Thompson taking the best novice Irish award.
J Skelton exhibited the best Yorkshire and Bob Toon took the best Budgerigar award.
The North of England Gloster Club’s 50th anniversary saw 218 Glosters competing for the awards.
Leading the way was Dave Hobart’s U/F buff corona hen which took the best Gloster, best u/f, best buff variegated and the coveted George Storey Presidents Award.
This was a very well received win for one the most respected and popular fanciers. It was fitting that Dave took the top prize at the 50th anniversary show which was also his dear friend Rob Wright’s memorial show; and that Rob’s son Ian presented the award.
Champion Gloster.
Pushing the leading exhibit was Neil Burton & Paul Reay’s U/F TPD consort hen which took the best opposite head award. Paul & Neil were also awarded the best cinnamon with a corona hen and best AOC with a consort hen.
Margaret Moore took the best FLTD and best white a consort hen.
George Nicol & Adrian Short annexed the leading yellow a corona cock.
Novice Gloster.
Andrew Armitage took the best novice and best novice FLTD award with an AOC corona cock and the best novice buff with an U/F corona hen. Andrew was also awarded the best novice yellow with a corona hen and best novice white with a corona hen.
Malcolm Lowe took the leading novice opposite head and best U/F with a TPD consort hen and best novice cinnamon with a corona hen.
Lizard Section.
Steve Mann took the leading Lizard in a section of 23 and the John Scott PA with a classic non-cap silver hen.
Adrian Short benched the best natural Lizard, and Paul Hutchinson best novice and best blue Lizard.
OVC section.
Leading the way in a section of 67 was Norman Wallace who took the best OVC award with an U/F buff Scots Fancy hen.
Second best OVC was Billy Spour with a Plainhead Lancashire, and third best was Donald Skinner-Reid with a FLTD Belgian hen.
The leading novice OVC was Kevin Featherstone’s FLTD North Dutch hen.
Rare Section.
The best in the rare classes of 26 exhibits was Barney Owston’s Raza Espanola. Steve Mann was second  with a Fiorino Crest, and in third spot was Gary Mann’s Rhinelander.

The club wishes to thank Rob & Ian Wright who donated a splendid pair of Glosters for the raffle, to Sam Guy for donating bags of seed for auction, and a thank you to everyone who donated towards the raffle and club specials.
Thanks are also extended to the show secretary Austin Middlemiss, stewards, and to Sharon and Angela for gainfully selling raffle tickets, and a special thank you to Ian Wright for carrying out the presentations on behalf of the club.
