V ONE DAY SHOW – GLOSTER CLUB COMUNITAT VALENCIANA

A Record-Breaking Fifth Edition

29 November 2025 • Polideportivo L’Alcúdia de Crespins, Valencia, Spain

On 29 November 2025, the Gloster Club Comunitat Valenciana held its fifth One Day Show at the

Polideportivo L’Alcúdia de Crespins, Valencia.

The fifth edition proved to be another important milestone for the club, with participation continuing to grow year after year. A total of 949 Glosters were exhibited by 86 breeders, making this the largest show organised by the club to date.

The exhibition brought together breeders from different parts of Spain and, importantly, included exhibitors from other Gloster clubs, including Club Gloster Murcia, Club Gloster Madrid, Club Gloster

Canarias and Club Gloster Cádiz. This growth demonstrates the enthusiasm for the Gloster Canary in Spain and the increasingly important place occupied by the Gloster Club Comunitat Valenciana within the Spanish Gloster community.

An International Judging Panel

The show was judged by an international panel consisting of Victor Scerri and Louis Grech from Malta, together with Carlos Arcos Gaviño from Spain.

The judges were presented with a large entry of birds, with particularly numerous classes making the competition demanding. Overall, the standard was considered very good, with many quality specimens competing across the different sections.

The Best in Show bird, bred by Severino Sánchez Marcelino, stood out particularly strongly. According to the assessment received, it was one of the best Glosters the judges had seen that year. The bird had also achieved good results at the Andalusian Show, adding further significance to its victory in Valencia.

The Main Awards

The top award of the day, Best Gloster in Show, went to Severino Sánchez Marcelino. The same bird also won Best Buff and Best Corona in Show. Best Opposite went to Coalición Huescar EJ, who also achieved Best Consort, Best T.P.D., Best Cinnamon, Best White and Best Clear — an outstanding set of results.

Best Gloster of the Club went to Francisco Manuel Cobos Espinar. This exhibitor also received the Best New Colour award.

We would also like to recognise Maria Pilar Novillo Carrasco as the highest-placed female breeder in the competition.

A Champion Across the Spanish Club Circuit

The success of Severino Sánchez Marcelino in Valencia was also part of an exceptional season. In addition to winning Best Gloster in Show at the V One Day Show, Severino became the overall champion of the IGBA Spanish Club League, a competition organised by the International Gloster Breeders Association between Gloster clubs in Spain.

With a total of 52 points, Severino finished the league as champion, adding another important achievement to an already outstanding year. His Best in Show bird in Valencia was also considered one of the best Glosters seen during the year and had already achieved success at the Andalusian Show. Taken together, these results made 2025 an exceptional season for Severino Sánchez Marcelino and his breeding programme.

A Friendly Atmosphere

Although the competition was intense, the atmosphere throughout the day was one of friendship and camaraderie. Around one hundred people visited the exhibition, contributing to the excellent atmosphere and allowing breeders and enthusiasts to meet and share their passion for the Gloster.

In the middle of the morning, the club organised a small breakfast/refreshment break for the attendees. It was a good opportunity to pause during the judges’ work and, above all, to spend some enjoyable and relaxed time together.

For the Gloster Club Comunitat Valenciana, these moments are an important part of the philosophy behind the show. Competition is fundamental, but so too is bringing breeders and enthusiasts together and strengthening the friendships within the hobby.

A Show That Continues to Grow

One of the most positive aspects of this fifth edition was the continued growth in participation. The number of breeders and birds exhibited has increased year after year, and the 2025 show set a new participation record for the club. The presence of breeders from other Gloster clubs also demonstrates the increasingly strong links between the different Gloster communities throughout Spain.

The particularly large classes were one of the outstanding features of the show, providing the judges with demanding work while also giving exhibitors a high level of competition.

For the club, this growth is a source of great satisfaction and an important incentive to continue working. Reaching the fifth edition with record participation confirms that the One Day Show has become an important date in the Spanish Gloster calendar.

Looking Towards 2026

The club is already working towards the next edition. As participation continues to increase, the Gloster Club Comunitat Valenciana plans to add one more judge to the next show. This will help distribute the judges’ workload and, above all, allow more time for each bird to be assessed carefully.

This decision reflects the club’s commitment to maintaining a high standard of judging as the show continues to grow.

Acknowledgements

Our thanks go to Victor Scerri, Louis Grech and Carlos Arcos Gaviño for their work as judges; to all the breeders who travelled to participate; and to the approximately one hundred people who visited and supported the exhibition.

We would also like to thank the Ayuntamiento de l’Alcúdia de Crespins, IGBA, our sponsors and collaborators and, of course, all the families and members of the Gloster Club Comunitat Valenciana whose work and commitment make the organisation of the show possible.
