2022 Southern Gloster Fancy Canary Club

Prior to the 2022 show a disaster struck when the church show hall was gutted by fire, providing me with a headache searching for an alternative venue. Divine help was at hand and with church help our new home a short distance from the old, welcomed exhibitors.

Feedback indicated that exhibitors felt the location was easy to find, and from SGFCC perspective the venue gives us another positive as it provides us onsite storage for the staging.

So a big thank you to everyone that exhibited, your entries and what you spent at the show means we have a small excess to carry over and ensure that we will have a show next year.

Judges E Wells   & M Fairfield

did a great job sorting 352 good quality birds to find some really worthy winners.

Best Champion Gloster, Best White, Best Champion  Corona and Overall Best Gloster in show went to A Middlemiss

Fawn Corona Hen

Best champion consort, Best Opposite Head went to the Mick Rose & Kevin McCarthy partnership with a flighted 3 Parts Dark Consort Hen. They also took Best Cinnamon with a Corona Hen amongst their six winners.

Skeffington and Gill took Best Buff with an Unflighted Corona Hen and Best Grizzle amongst their five winners. Skeffington and Gill took Best Buff with an Unflighted Corona Hen and Best Grizzle amongst their five winners.

Keith Baker took Best 3 Parts Dark with a flighted Corona Hen along with Best Yellow with a Corona Hen and an additional four class winners.

Brian and Phil Durrell made the relatively short journey for them out of Suffolk and won both unflighted 3 Parts Dark Corona classes bolstering their three winners. Pete Bull once again crossed on to the mainland from Isle of Wight to return with two winners.

Champion exhibitors Roger Hammond, Paul Newark, Colin Bowyer and [yours truly] Fred Riches took away one class each.

Moving onto the Novice Section congratulations go to Albert Hutton who scooped the majority of awards with his flighted buff consort cock taking Best Buff, Best Consort, Overall Best Novice Gloster. Albert added Best Novice White, Yellow, Cinnamon and Grizzle.

Best Novice Corona, Best Novice Opposite Head went to John Chapman. Best Novice Unflighted 3 Parts Dark Corona went to newcomer K Wilkins.

It was great to welcome back the novice exhibitors who were conspicuous by their absence in 2019.

Well done all,

Thanks for making the trip to SGFCC, I hope that being part of the IGBA British Championship will encourage more Novices, and Champions, to exhibit at SGFCC at next years show on Saturday 28 October 2023. Please let me know who you would like to judge by the AGM Saturday 11 March 10:30.

A very big thank you goes to Mick Rose, Kevin McCarthy and John Cronin for donating pairs of birds to auction which raised £126 and were won by Roger Hammond and Fred Riches.
