13th March 1966 - Oxford at 03:00
The IGBA was originally founded when Cliff Harris, then secretary of Oxford CBS put an advert in Cage and Aviary Birds magazine calling a meeting at the Church Hall, Barton Estate, Headington, Oxford on Sunday 13th March 1966 at 3:00pm for the purpose of forming a new Gloster Specialist Society.

At that first meeting the attendees comprised Cliff Harris (left), Gerry Wolfendale (right), Ted Ockenden, Bill Fisher, Colin Bowyer (middle), A Gunn, A Edwards, Bert Jacques and Maurice Payne.
New Club Proposal
A proposal from Gerry Wolfendale got agreement that the new club be modelled upon the International Border Club that was already up and running, the result being the formation of the International Gloster Breeders Association.
First IGBA Chairman
Gerry Wolfendale was elected as the first Chairman and Cliff Harris the General Secretary. It was agreed 2 patronages would be given to City of Oxford and Derby Cage Bird Society.
29th January 1967 - Successful First Year
At the end of the first year the AGM of the 29th January 1967 reported a successful year with membership fees for 1966 of £36 pounds and 2 shillings.
1972 First Year Book
Ivor Alberry's proposal to print a Year Book adopted.
1975 First Committee
First Committee elected comprising Ivor Alberry, Ron Hopkins, John Martin, Ted Scoffin, Harry Marriott, Charles Minjoodt, Ivy Charlesworth, George Davis
1980 - 2007
Tony and Maureen Southern ‘s 27 year tenure as General Secretary / Treasurer ended with the demise of Tony.
1986 - First Independant IGBA Gloster Show
First Independent IGBA Show was held on the 5th October, a day to remember 1600+ Glosters on show with 400 members attending from UK, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Canada. Jeff Crunkhorn, Harold Prater, Archie Brown and Gerry Wolfendale judged Cottrell &Young Fltd Buff Dk Crest Corona Hen to be Best in Show
1990 - First National Exhibition Supreme Award
A year to be remembered for the Gloster Fancy. Derek & Margaret Moore’s unflighted Buff Dark Crest Corona cock took the Supreme Award at the National Exhibition. Derek said ”This was a great day for me personally and i hope it has done a lot for Glosters, especially to encourage more people to take up this wonderful breed of canary.”
1990 - Record Show Entry
2017 Glosters overall | 1192 Champions | 795 Novices | 30 Juniors | 477 Buff Corona’s | 400 Buff Consort’s | 200 White /Allied | 103 Champ U/F Buff Corona Cocks judged by Arthur Young. Judges I Alberry, C Bowyer, C Clarke, D Moore, G Harper, A Young. Best in Show M Kelham Fltd TPD Corona Hen
1995 - First Novice Awarded Best Opposite Head
Winner: W Carty
1999 - Second Novice Awarded Best Opposite Head
Winner: Barrie Alexander
2002 - Second National Supreme Award
The second time in the history of the National Exhibition that the Gloster canary was awarded the supreme award, this time to Kevin Stoakes - Unflighted Buff Corona Cock.
2003 - First Clean Sweep of Best Gloster & Best Opposite Head Awards
Paul Garner awarded both Best Gloster and Best Opposite Head.
2004 - Second Clean Sweep of Best Gloster & Best Opposite Head Awards
Barrie Alexander awarded both Best Gloster and Best Opposite Head.
2007 - 2009 - Triple Champion
Best in Show awards for 3 year running dominated by Barrie Alexander.
2007 - Novice awarded Best Opposite Head
Winner: Eric Jay
2011 - Novice Awarded Best Opposite Head
Winner: John Cressey
2013 - Best Opposite Head Awarded to Continental Exhibitor
Marnix D’Hont first continental exhibitor enters the top awards –taking Best opposite head
2014 - Continental Exhibitor Awarded Best in Show
One year later winner: Marnix D’Hont
2015 - 2016 - Continental Dominance
Back to back Best in Show for Ludo Lenaers, starts a period of Continental dominance through to 2019 with Exhibitors, Bert Munneke, Ron Van Eijk, Gerrard Douma. Giuseppe (Pino) Trovato taking Best in Show and Best Opposite Head awards.
2021 - Third Clean Sweep of Best Gloster and Best Opposite Head awards.
Return of the IGBA Show after the Global Pandemic provided Adrian Short the accolade of being the Third recipient of both Best Gloster and Best Opposite Head awards.​

The original concept of those 9 (Nine) visionaries’ is going strong with members from across the world, UK, Eire, France,
Holland, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Malta, Australia, USA, Canada, Channel Isles, Iran, Turkey, Denmark, Gibraltar, Germany,
Andorra, Greece, Switzerland, Israel, Spain, Mexico.   Current IGBA patronage awards going to 27 registered Affiliate Gloster Societies
and an expanding number of Cage Bird Societies.
