The 2025 Season drew to a close with Burton & Reay once again topping the Championship Table and Mitch Cowen likewise on the Novice Table.  Merit comments need to go to Phil & Ryan Dawtry for taking the coveted IGBA Best Gloster and Best Consort awards, a feat only achieved by a few exhibitors over the 59 years of the Association.

Round 1 - Kent & Stafford National

Well Folks the search for the 2025 British Champion of Champions and Champion of Novices started on the first weekend of October with Kent Gloster on the 4th and a returning Gloster Section at the Stafford “National” on the 5th October.

Special  thanks  need to go to Paul Larkin for organising the Gloster Section especially keeping entries open to the day of the show; proving that using technology enables show organisers to maximise exhibitor entries, rather than closing weeks in advance which works against exhibitors finalising their team  selection. Well done Paul

Kent Gloster is always the first event in the All Gloster Calendar kicking off the 2025 season on the  October 4th.

25 Champion and 5 Novice exhibitors entered bird (335 & 67 ) for judges Eddie Wells and Steve Chennells to run their eye over.
Phil & Ryan Dawtrey winning Best Gloster with a lovely u/f TPD Corona hen and Mitch Cowen taking Best Opposite  Head with a u/f TPD Consort hen .
Mitch took all bar 2 of the Novice specials with Phil Goss taking the others.
In the Champions the specials were more evenly spilt with the Dawtrey/s taking 4 , Martyn Fairfield & Pete Bull 3, Steve Webb 2, Craig & Jackie Biddle and Albert Hutton 1 each.

New Junior exhibitor Willow Keay from the Eastern Counties exhibited for the first time. It is to be hoped that with encouragement from everyone in the fancy that comes into contact with Willow on the circuit, she makes upward progress in the hobby.  Well done Willow onward and upward.

Kent Gloster P & R Dawtry Best Gloster
Kent Gloster M Cowen Best Opp Head , Best Novice

Stafford National saw 13 exhibitors enter just under 200 birds. Nine Champions benched 127 , with the four Novices adding another 41, unfortunately there were no junior entries, maybe next year?

Many notable breeders chipped in to steward the event keeping Darren Gill (Judge) supplied with quality exhibits.

True to form  Neil Burton & Paul Reay with Dave Hobart made the exhaustive trip from the Carlisle area and were yet again rewarded with Best Opposite Head (Consort) Best Buff,  Best TPD, Best White, the combined Best  Grizzle,Light or AOC. Seems like the Burton & Reay juggernaut starts off where it left off in 2024. Best Cinnamon  went to  John Cronin.

Having said all that Adrian Short bench an incredible Yellow Corona under the partnership name Nicol & Short (George and Adrian had agreed to combine forces in 2025, the recent demise of George being commemorated by Adrian showing under the partnership name for this exhibition year). Apparently the word was that the Yellow was the best Yellow seen on the show bench in many a year, so much so that it went on to compete for the National Supreme Award only to be edged out into runner up position by a Lizard.

Close but no cigar for Nicol & Short to follow in the footsteps of Derek and Margaret Moore and Kevin Stokes as recipients of the National Supreme Award.

Mitch Cowen hot foot from his BOH success at Kent made the close to home trip and came away with Best Novice (TPD Consort Hen); Best Novice Opposite Head, (Blue Corona) ; Best Novice TPD ; Best Novice Yellow ; Best Novice Cinnamon ; Best Novice White.

Best Novice Buff went to M. Wilson with the combined Best Novice Grizzle Light or AOC going to J Mills.

Lets hope that the National Gloster Section remains on the 2026 Calendar and exhibitors provide increased support. Full report will be posted onto the website and in the 2026 Year Book.
