At the turn of the year we were advised of the sad and untimely demise of Susan Guy. Susan was one of a few IGBA lady judges, and the partner of Sam in the S & S Guy partnership.Â
Susan and Sam ran the Midland Gloster Fancy Canary Club for many years until they decided to call it a day and amalgamate with the West Midlands Gloster Association.
There has been much recent editorial about Susan’s life, both personal and in Glosters , with the North of Scotland adding to that with Sandy Hay writing that the North of Scotland Gloster Club was saddened to hear of the passing of Sue Guy on December 24th 2022. Our sympathies to Sam and his family. With Sue in mind the North of Scotland Gloster Club will be adding the Sue Guy Memorial Trophy to our show schedule for the Best Novice Gloster at our show in the McBoyle Hall Portknockie on October 22nd 2023. The trophy will be the same as the George Storey Memorial Trophy for Best Gloster at the Portknockie CBS show.
When Susan and Sam amalgamated MGFCC with WMGA along with them came in excess of a dozen historic trophies. WMGA are considering how best to perpetuate the memory of Susan, but as a start on the 5th November WMGA2023 will be “The Susan Guy Memorial Show”.Â
