WHAT IS THE IGBA? HOW DOES THE IGBA FUNCTION? Part 2

WHAT IS THE IGBA? HOW DOES THE IGBA FUNCTION? Part 2

A warm welcome to a new year -2023- to all our Affiliate Clubs.

This is the Second of a Two Part Blog to identify to new member organisations how we function, and be a reminder to long serving Affiliate members of the need to re-affiliate each year.

Affiliates – Clubs and Organisations

A Group CANNOT join the IGBA without having IGBA registered and fully paid members.

For a club to affiliate there really needs to be 2 or more members in the club and a willingness for the club to increase IGBA members.

If a group of individuals wants to affiliate to the IGBA it applies or renews the group through this link https://www.igba.co.uk/affiliate-patronage-application/

The Affiliate Secretary and IGBA Committee will review the application, ask questions and if satisfied accept the organisation as an Affiliate.

Any UK or Overseas group joining IGBA pays a fee and becomes a group member of the Worldwide IGBA family.

The fee includes:

  1. An administration joining fee.
  2. Advertising their events on the website and in the yearbook.
  3. Supplying articles and reports for the website and year book.
  4. A rosette package for awarding to members at their shows.
  5. A Certificate of Registration.
  6. UK Only – Inclusion in the British Championship League to find the overall Champion of Champion & Champion of Novice Exhibitors in the current exhibition year.
  7. Overseas Only – there is currently no Overseas Championship. However the committee is discussing and planning how to implement an IGBA supported Overseas Championship for the Year 2024/5.

It is becoming noticeable that many Overseas Gloster Organisations are promoting their exhibitions in a fashion that is giving the impression that the exhibition is an IGBA event.

This is Not Correct or Acceptable. We politely ask all Overseas Clubs to remember that

Currently IGBA DOES NOT allow an Affiliate, or any other group not affiliated to IGBA but with members of the IGBA, to say that their club show is an IGBA show.

The Affiliate should promote the IGBA however it can but NOT promote their show as a show held or supported by the IGBA.

This situation is difficult for us [IGBA] to police. We place trust in our affiliates and hope that overseas clubs will, in future, identify with and promote their show using words something like “Club Name – IGBA Affiliate Show No. X”

The committee does recognise that it is in the interests of both the affiliate and parent organisation to highlight &  promote IGBA and the Affiliate Organisation jointly for shows, and will shortly provide advice on how best it considers this can be achieved.

What the IGBA does not want to happen is for a club with many members, to have one or two people join the IGBA and the others choose not to join but get access to benefits that the name IGBA gives to an affiliate.

Continued promotion of the IGBA by an Affiliate to increase both our memberships is what is expected when becoming an Affiliate.

For a group to be a current affiliated member of the IGBA, Fees need to be paid by the end of January each year.

This will enable your group to be included in our Supplier Order for Overseas Rosettes.

If you are late in affiliating there is a chance that your affiliation rosette package might not be available, and a special order will need to be placed with higher cost being charged to the affiliates in the following year.

Please help us to help you – Affiliate in January !!
