Judging in Germany 2022. – Graham Beech

Judging in Germany 2022. – Graham Beech

Graham Beech

Once again, the Beech and Brown partnership  were kindly invited to Judge the “Glosterspezialschau” in Harsum /Asel, which was the 24th show organised by Walter Wedig and his family,

Paul Brown

We made an early start at 1am from Shropshire driving to Heathrow Airport for a flight to Hanover Germany.

At Heathrow we met up once again with our long term friend and fellow judge Brian Durrell who had travelled in from Suffolk.

After a pleasant flight we were met at the airport by our host Walter Wedig, who drove us to his home in Harsum, which was to be our base for two nights. Margret, Walters wife, once again kept us well fed with some wonderful German home-cooked food and drinks for the duration of our stay.

During the afternoon we had time to relax and have a chat with our hosts before Gregor and his wife Kerstin arrived who then took us to look around Hildesheim, an historic market town rebuilt following WW11. Whilst in the market square, which consisted of timber framed buildings, we visited the historic Bakers Guild Hall, where we enjoyed a local beer and pizza. We then went back to visit the show hall in the evening. A special thanks must go to Walter, Margret, Gregor and Kerstin for their kind hospitality.

The show was held on the Saturday 12th November, with an entry of 550 birds from 28 exhibitors travelling from Germany, and across parts of Europe. The quality of the birds, that we judged, was once again very high, split into 56 classes with some of the popular classes having large entries.
