It is unfortunate, but a sad fact, that it is highly unlikely we will have last year’s Best in Show Winners, Pino Trovato’s (Italy) & Bert Munneke’s (Nederlands) donated birds to raffle / auction at IGBA2021 in October.
However, Cage & Aviary Birds magazine have undertaken to organise and run a special online Christmas raffle this year.
The initiative was placed before members at AGM who agreed IGBA should participate. Engagement will be a worthy alternative method for 1) UK Top Breeder / Exhibitors to donate bird(s) for IGBA 2) for members and Gloster breeders generally to have opportunity of supplementing stock with quality birds – providing they are lucky winners.
Our chair, Keith Baker, received the following communication from Rob Innes Editor Cage & Aviary Bird magazine.
“I am encouraged to email you by Eddy wells, who’s responded with enthusiasm to the idea below! Please excuse what inevitably will read like a round robin email.
You may have seen in recent issues of Cage and Aviary Birds that we are running a special online Christmas raffle this year. The aim is to raise funds for clubs – preferably for needy clubs. The essence is that individuals put up prizes for raffles (birds, equipment, seed etc], with a value of not less than £100 to help a nominated club (specialist or CBS)
From September, photos of the raffle prizes will be displayed on a dedicated website. Each prize will have next to it the name of the club that will benefit from tickets bought for that prize.
People can buy tickets either via the website or via C&AB. After the raffle is drawn on December the 11th, the total money bid for each prize will be paid to the appropriate club.
That’s about it, we are being helped in this by the organisations of the extremely successful online raffle run by the Mid Essex BS, which in 2020 sold 11500 tickets on behalf of 13 budgie clubs. This year Mid Essex BS have said they want the whole fancy to benefit not just budget clubs. I think it’s a tried and tested format and that participants have little to risk.
I would very much like clubs to benefit across a wide range of the fancy and so I am contacting various people from different sections to ask if they would like to participate. You do not need to put up a prize yourself you could arrange for another breeder to put up a bird or ask a supplier of feed or equipment.
What you need to do is 1) Name a beneficiary club 2) Name the contact with whom we liaise over the prize and donation 3) Propose a suitable prize.
Many of the prizes will be 2021 birds bred by “name” breeders but that isn’t compulsory of course. The deadline for entries is Saturday August 13th this is for firm expression of interest which we can publish. Does that sound of interest?”
So this is the prime opportunity for YOU the IGBA GLOSTER “NAMES” to step forward and promote the Gloster Fancy & IGBA to a wider audience and provide fanciers with a one-time lucky dip opportunity to improve their stock.
Phil & Brian Durrell have already agreed to participate on behalf of the IGBA. If any other “name” wishes to participate or wants further information call Keith Baker on 01732 669590.
