Just to keep members up to date with what is happening re Europe after Brexit.
IOA-COM delegates are speaking at length to DEFRA about how we take birds and bring birds back into the UK.
The rule at this time 17th April is a full block on bringing livestock into the UK by DEFRA.
They have no idea what to do, so what has been decided is DEFRA are going to put a 12 week consultation paper for breeders to reply to.
After this time the outcome will be passed onto MP’s for them to decide what to do. They want to bring back quarantine for all animals for 30 days at a cost of £100 per bird, yet they have no quarantine stations, so where are they going to put the livestock?
This applies to bringing any bird back from Europe from sales days. There is a 5 bird Pet Licence in place but this is for people moving from Europe back to live in the UK.
We recommend all members please contact your local MP over this mater and please reply to the consultation paper. DEFRA has admitted to us they did not realise the problem was this big so the ball is in YOUR, the breeder court. This will take at least 3 years to sort out, but the IOA-COM along with (Sun, Parrott Society, Pigeon Fancy) are talking to DEFRA all the time.
